It’s been almost a year since my last post.
Last year was marked with illness in my family. It’s easy to hide behind a blog post/Facebook status full of pretty pictures and give the impression that life is always happy, harmonious, and easy. But for me as the mother of a large family – three members suffering from different illnesses, last year was sometimes happy, sometimes harmonious, but mostly hard.
I stopped working in October to devote more time to the family but by the end of the year, the stress of it all took a toll on my own health. By December, I was confined to bed rest for a month. My doctor told me that I had “poured myself out” and that there was “nothing left in the tank”.
But during that time, my family took care of me and even did all the Christmas decorating and baking. And I had time to look back at the year and see the healing that had taken place in my family.
Today, over a year since some very scary moments for me as a mother, I can say that my kids are definitely on the path to healing and wholeness. I mostly give God the credit for their healing. But I also thank God for providing caring doctors, compassionate therapists, and excellent mental health programs.
I thank God for carrying me so I could carry them.
My favorite lines from Handel’s Messiah:
He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; and He shall gather the lambs
With His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. (Isaiah 40:11)
Come unto Him, all ye that labour, come unto Him that are heavy laden, and He will give you rest. Take His yoke upon you, and learn of Him, for He
Is meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls
(Matthew 11:28-29)

I’m also very glad to see you back in the blogosphere, but mostly to hear that you are doing well–apparently after some very difficult times. And any mom knows that when any one of our “chicks” isn’t doing well, neither are we. I’m very sorry for the stress you’ve been under, but I fully understand, firsthand, how God is able to sustain us. Thank you so much for sharing and continue to be well! xx
