I am finding a serendipitous nature of participating in these weekly In a Vase on Monday photo challenges. Even though I know what plants are growing in my garden, I never know what I will find blooming in my garden from week to week. So with a little creativity, a bunch of pretty flowers and greens, and a vase, the end result is always beautiful.
This week is no different with a beautiful combination of reds and greens – not a combination I would come up on my own but one that works so well. A sort of Christmas in July. 🙂
My lovely Lenox vase which was a wedding gift to us over 31 years ago contains rich red zinnias, Annabelle Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’) which is white when it first blooms and then turns into this lovely shade of green, white echinacea, yarrow (Achillea ‘Moonshine’), variegated Solomon’s Seal (Polygonatum odoratum ‘Variegatum’), hosta, ferns, and yellow day lily (Hyperion).

What a lovely bouquet! Beautiful vase, too. The distinctive creamy color of Lenox has always been a favorite. My yarrow is long gone. I may try to transplant it this fall in another bed, the wildflowers have overtaken it. Yours is so pretty. And those zinnias!

Oh, I agree, sometimes I will have a preconceived idea of what I will be using on a Monday and then when the time comes that can all change, as it did for today’s vase. It’s good to go with the flow, isn’t it? Especially love the red zinnias – and what a great contrast all your blooms make in this plain white vase. Thanks for sharing

Thank you Cathy. I love the photo challenge but I also love that I have be creative in my flower arranging – not just sticking flowers in a vase. 🙂

Oh please feel free just to plonk them in a vase – it is more about the picking and bringing inside, essentially just to bring ourselves pleasure. But if we want to ‘arrange’ them, however minimally, then that’s OK too if it brings us pleasure

I keep seeing all these lovely Zinnias, I never grow them myself but I will have to try next year. Beautiful Vase, rich in colour.

Thank you Haile! Zinnias are wonderful and a required annual in my summer garden. Once they start blooming, they don’t stop until late fall (at least in New Jersey). 🙂

Your Christmas in July combination is charming. The pale green of the Hydrangeas sets off the more vibrant red and yellow flowers well. Zinnias have become one of my favorite summer flowers.

Thank you Kris! I am enjoying this challenge, not only because of the photography part, but because I need to be more creative in flower arranging. And zinnias are also my favorite summer flower as well. 🙂

Beautiful zinnias indeed. Such a bold and bright red, very festive. It is winter here in Australia, middle year Christmas 😏😊
