My three weeks in Phoenix is almost up and I am dreading the moment I have to say good bye to my little grandson. But looking back, I am so thankful for the absolutely wonderful time I have had here.

My main purpose here, of course, is to see my grandson and help my daughter, but I had a little “wish list” and amazingly I was able to accomplish it all.

One thing I wanted to do was to get a shot of a sunset in the desert. Having limited transportation posed a problem and after two weeks, I started to think that I was never going to get that shot.

My aunt and uncle live in Phoenix and they invited me over for the weekend. Soon after I arrived, I discovered that right behind their house was a dirt road that led to a stunning desert scene and it faced west! Right after dinner, I grabbed my camera and took a walk. What I beheld took my breath away. It was that unexpected gift that caused gratitude to well up in my heart and tears to fill my eyes. That experience echoes what took place in my heart when I beheld my grandson for the very first time just over two weeks prior.

So during these last few days here, I am cherishing these gifts with a thankful heart.

Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons.
