I’ve been searching around for a different theme. It’s not that I was unhappy with the last one but I was thinking that maybe there is one that just fits better. At this point I do not want to pay for a customized theme but one thing I do always want is a customizable header.
With my former theme (Triton Lite), I felt that the font was too small and too light and the pictures a wee bit too small. With this new theme (Expound), the font is easier to read and my pictures are larger on the screen. Also, it’s easy for the reader to scroll down and see past posts.
This is not the perfect theme for me. For instance the header picture can only share space with the header title but as far as the rest of the layout, I am happy with it. Please let me know what you think in the comment section below. Please be specific in your criticisms. Color? Layout? Header? Ease of navigation? I’m open to all your input.
And just to warn you, I will be trying out various themes so don’t be surprised if my blog looks totally different next time you visit. 🙂
Here’s a picture of what my blog used to look like.

Lastly, I will leave you with a picture of a beautiful lake in Pennsylvania.

A beautiful day at the lake, that’s for sure! I like your warm autumn background color. The text in the header is an improvement over the former theme. I also like the black bar separating the header from the body. The header photo almost seems too narrow from top to bottom. Or maybe I’m just accustomed to seeing it larger on the previous theme.

Thanks Patti for your thoughts! Yeah, I might play with the header to make it thicker.

While you’re experimenting, you might want to try the Twenty-Eleven theme. I use it on three of my blogs because it has so many options. To start with, the header is 1000 pixels wide from side to side, but you can use any depth from top to bottom that you want. It gives you a suggestion of 288, but when you go to insert the picture, and they show you the size they suggest and tell you to crop it, you can just pull the bottom line down to include your whole picture and choose, “Skip cropping.”
Also it gives you a choice of two color schemes — light and dark — and a customizable background as well as header. You also have a choice of having your sidebar on either right or left — or not having a side bar at all and just using the footer for widgets. Also, the title and sub-title are above the header picture instead of on it, so that you are not restricted with the color of font in order to be able to read it.
I personally think all of the themes keep the font too small — unless we pay to customize — which I won’t do. It would be too expensive for all my blogs. But the Twenty-Eleven theme has larger font than some, and I find that if I make it bold, that helps a lot too. Also, I generally type my material on a document page, then make sure it’s set at the following setting in that document: Style — “Text Body, Font name — Arial, and Font size — 12 point. That way it pastes to my site without a lot of trouble or changes that I don’t want.
In case you want to look at how they look for a whole blog, you can go to my sites and check it out. I’ll put the links to two of them right here.

Also, I use the “Chateau” theme for my Christmas blog, and it has several similar options. I’ll put the link for it on here too.

There is also one called “Book Lite,” which I use for my Happy Patriot site. It has a huge header, and you choose the photo, and it has a customizable background. But the title text is on top of the picture, and it comes with the only option for widgets being in the footer, so you may not want that one for your site. But just in case you want to see how it looks, I’ll give you the link.

Hope these suggestions are helpful as you experiment. I change my sites just every once in a while, because I get bored when I use the same thing for too long at a time.

I really like it! I’m always looking to see when they come out with new ones – and I don’t want to pay yet either! I have probably ‘previewed’ about 95% of them! Still haven’t landed on what I want 100% but this actually is really close! I like where there is the picture along with the first few sentences of the blog. Kind of lets the reader skim through your contents and pick what grabs their attention instead of having to scroll through every post! I may be ‘copying’ you soon! Thanks for coming by my blog!

i like your theme choice mainly for the home page features – it is very similar to the Forever theme in that it lists your recent posts four at the top then hints of your others as you scroll down. what i like here is when you scroll down, you only get a hint of your posts rather than the whole post. gives it a clean look. 🙂

Like your new theme better than the former one; however, the font is still fairly small. Any way to enlarge?
